I started my teaching career in 1981 and spent thirty years teaching maths in secondary schools. From 1993 until retirement in 2015 I worked in a variety of roles as an assistant headteacher on the Leadership Team of the Manor Academy. I served as a governor at a local primary school for four years and three years after retiring was very pleased to have the opportunity to return to this rewarding role at The Manor Academy. I am passionate about education and increasing opportunities for young people and am extremely proud to be part of the Manor team.

I joined the Manor Academy Governing Body as a Parent Governor in December 2021. My son started at the school in September that year. I have been a Primary School Governor since 2015 and also serve as Chair of a collaboration for five primary schools in the Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse area.

I believe that every child, regardless of disadvantage or disability, deserves an education which inspires them, building their confidence and character, to help them release their full potential.

I graduated with a degree in Geography from Nottingham University, before training as a journalist. I have had a varied career, predominantly in Sales and Marketing and I now run the UK business for a small multi-national company, with it’s Head Office in Germany. I look forward to using my skills and experience to help Manor Academy continue to improve outcomes for all our children.

I am passionate about creating opportunity for children and young people to receive excellent educational, pastoral, and wrap-around care. I strongly believe that school life should create great memories, long-lasting friendships and the best possible chance of success when progressing into their next steps. My background involves over 22 years’ experience working in the post 16 education sector, I am a Designated Safeguarding Lead, and have experience in people management, contract performance management, partnerships and more. Young people are at the heart of my passion and I am keen to use my skills and knowledge to support the school on the journey to outstanding as a Governor.

Steve Yardley

A committed individual with 7 years’ experience as a Trustee and now Academy Governor across two separate Trusts.  My expertise in the post 16 vocational education sector, enables me to provide valuable insight and challenge to the Academy and its aspirations for their students. This expertise has been acquired over three decades working in and around apprenticeships and study programmes, where I have a veritable track record of supporting young people to fulfil their potential. Having not enjoyed my own development within the school environment, I believe I provide a unique perspective for all stakeholders to tap into given that we must always strive to do right by the student.

Stacey Pepperday

I joined the Manor Academy as a staff member in September 2024. I used my time as a stay-at-home mum to volunteer in a local primary school; it became clear to me that my passion was working within the S.E.N department. I used this time to take on new challenges and gain new qualifications. I am now the Inclusion Manager here at Manor Academy and want to provide support with the children’s curriculum journey but most importantly wellbeing and happiness for all pupils during their educational journey.
I believe that every child deserves an education while having experiences along the way that will help build confidence and shape them to be the best version of themselves and achieving their full potential in adulthood.

Liz Brennan

As Head of Science, I bring a wealth of experience, insight, and dedication to my role as a staff governor. My decision to become a governor stems from a deep commitment to ensuring that staff voices are heard and valued in the strategic direction of the school. With a strong understanding of both curriculum and pastoral needs, I am well-placed to represent the interests of my colleagues while maintaining a clear focus on what is best for students.

I am passionate about fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. My leadership in the Science department reflects my belief in high standards, inclusive practice, and evidence-informed teaching. As a governor, I contribute thoughtfully to discussions, drawing on my classroom experience and leadership perspective to support balanced and informed decision-making.

My motivation is rooted in a desire to help shape a school environment where staff feel empowered, supported, and part of a shared vision. I see governance as an opportunity to bridge the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that decisions made at board level are grounded in the realities of day-to-day teaching and learning.
